ATFL News

September 2009

Dear Thoroughbred Friends,

After the Finish Line's summer fundraiser, "A Tribute to the Majesty of Thoroughbreds", was a winning night for the horses. We would like to thank the Southern California community for their support. Many of our silent auction items were bid over their value and our live auction drew bidding wars. With the help of our Board of Directors, sponsors, auction donors, attendees, guest announcers, auctioneer and those unable to attend yet donated, we were able to surpass our funding goals! Our fundraiser page lists everyone who made the evening a success. It is with great pride that ATFL looks forward to awarding the much-needed funds to the rescues to help their Thoroughbreds transition off the track and into new careers.

Fundraising has been very challenging this year for the Thoroughbred rescue organizations. Many more horses are in need of help. The mission of After the Finish Line is to provide a quality of life for rescued Thoroughbred ex-racehorses and broodmares by funding the rescue organizations efforts to support the current Thoroughbreds in their care and providing funding to save additional Thoroughbreds from slaughter and neglect. Your donations can be used to save horses at auctions, pay for surgery or medical expenses, provide hay and feed, pay boarding expenses, or transport a Thoroughbred to safety.

After the Finish Line would not be able to succeed without your help. Thank you for trusting us to direct your donations to the rescue organizations that need it most. I know people want to help the Thoroughbreds in their time of need but don't know how. For the past decade I have been rescuing off the track Thoroughbreds throughout the country. ATFL has the experience to award your donation to qualified rescue organizations that will use the funds for their intended purpose.

In 2009, so far, we have supported 39 rescue organizations in 34 states helping approximately 140 horses. Additional funding will be awarded throughout the year enabling After the Finish Line to help more Thoroughbreds at rescue organizations throughout the United States.

Over $4,000 in monthly emergency funds was recently awarded to three rescue organizations. Illinois Equine Humane Center requested funding for monthly board, feed and bedding for 8 of their Thoroughbreds. United Pegasus Foundation asked for assistance with their hay bill for 62 Thoroughbreds. Brite Futures Farm requested supplements for their aged and injured Thoroughbreds who need it most during the upcoming colder months. Adoptions decrease during the winter months, which increases the expenses of the rescue organizations. We are now working with two other rescue organizations to provide funding for their Thoroughbreds.

Many people and organizations approach After the Finish Line to be the beneficiary of their organizations fundraiser. If you are planning a fundraiser please consider After the Finish Line. Since we are a national funding non-profit, fundraiser's can be held in other states. I can be reached at dawn@afterthefinishline.org.

Thank you again for your continued support of our efforts to help the rescued Thoroughbreds. We rely on the generosity of a national community of individuals, corporations and foundations who realize the significance of the work we do. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

Sincerely,
