Dear After the Finish Line Supporters,
Thank you for your ongoing support to help the rescued Thoroughbred ex-racehorses and broodmares throughout the United States. You can make a better life for the horses that are either injured, too slow to win or cannot produce quality foals. We help these horses transition into a new career with the donations from a national community of individuals, corporations and foundations, who realize the significance of the work we do. No matter what amount you are able to contribute, your donations to ATFL will give you hope for these horses.
Our donors make After the Finish Line success. Thank you for trusting us to direct your donations to the rescue organizations that need it most. I know people want to help the Thoroughbreds but don't know how. For the past decade I have been rescuing Thoroughbreds throughout the United States who can no longer race or breed. ATFL has the experience to award your donation to qualified rescue organizations that will use the funds for their intended purpose. Your donations can be used to save horses at auctions, pay for surgery or medical expenses, provide hay and feed, pay boarding expenses, or transport a Thoroughbred to safety.
After the Finish Line awarded $4,500 to five rescue organizations. Another Chance Equine Rescue in Ohio rescued Dreamer who was found emaciated with untreated hooves. He was scheduled to be sent to auction. The rescue was unable to provide the expensive medication for Dreamer whose leg was continually swollen due to bacteria. ATFL provided the vet recommended antibiotics to heal her long term illness. ATFL also paid to have Lady's legs x-rayed to determine her lameness issues.
Beauty's Haven Farm & Equine Rescue in Florida needed help paying the hospital bill for Dingolay's ear surgery. This Thoroughbred was extremely underweight and her halter was embedded in her ear when she was rescued. Dingolay has since gained her weight and her ear has healed. Angel Baby was discovered in a dark barn. This mare did not receive proper standard medical care for 3 years before being rescued. She earned $273k in her career racing at eleven racetracks. One of her foals raced in the Kentucky Derby. Angel Baby received medical attention when she was rescued but unfortunately passed away shortly due to prior neglect.
Little Brook Farm in New York rescued a Thoroughbred they named Spirit whose halter was deeply embedded into her head causing an infection behind her ear. She spend 5 days in the vet clinic after surgery for additional care and observation. ATFL paid Spirit's medical bill.
The Finger Lakes SPCA continues to care for nearly half of the 62 Thoroughbreds rescued from one farm at the beginning of the year. These Thoroughbreds are making great progress in their rehabilitation from starvation and neglect. ATFL continues to help in the ongoing expenses of this massive rescue.
Neigh Savers requested funding for three Thoroughbreds. Excessively Rich's injury started with a bowed tendon incurred while racing. This lead to lameness due to the deterioration of his cartilage. Wendythethief has had chronic problems with her leg since her racing career ended. She needs radiographs to treat an ongoing infection. GasintheTurbo had fractured his ankle while in training. He also needs radiographs to assess his healing to date. The radiographs will determine the next course of treatment needed. ATFL will contribute to each horses medical bills.
As the economy continues to suffer we are receiving more funding requests from the rescue organizations to help their rescued Thoroughbreds. After the Finish Line provides a second chance and a voice for Thoroughbred horses. The funding provided by After the Finish Line will enable rescue organizations to save and care for more Thoroughbreds. Both you and ATFL understand their potential fate and provide support when called upon. You can make a difference between life and death.
After the Finish Line has a new mailing address. We will continue to host our summer fundraiser in Del Mar during the Del Mar race meet. You can send correspondence and donations to:
