Harry & Snowman is the inspirational story of Harry de Leyer, a Dutch immigrant, and Snowman, an old plow horse Harry rescues for $80. As a team, they went on to become the United States Open Jumper champion in 1958 and 1959 and set world records.
The documentary is a heartwarming story about their life-long and endearing friendship that changed both of their lives forever. HARRY & SNOWMAN was screened at 20 film festivals and won 11 awards.

After the Finish Line has partnered with the Harry & Snowman campaign to create awareness about animals like Snowman. The Harry & Snowman campaign focuses on animal rescue and the advocacy of animal rights groups; support for legislation to ban horse slaughter and donations to non-profit organizations that give other slaughter bound horses the same chance that Snowman had.

ONE LAST RACE

Saturday, June 18

After the Finish Line was one of the charities that received proceeds from the ONE LAST RACE, a 5K running and fun walk benefitting Off Track Thoroughbreds. Participants ran on a historic racetrack and through the trails of the Dupage County Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL outside of Chicago.

Thoroughbred racehorses should not have to run “one last race” when it’s time for them to retire from racing. We laced up our sneakers and ran the last race for them. We raised money to help with the care of the ex-racehorses as well as helped them transition into a second career. The race was held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10 am on the former estate of Daniel Rice who bred champion Thoroughbreds. In 1965, the Rice family won the Kentucky Derby with Lucky Debonair. Their horse Advocator placed second in the Kentucky Derby the following year.

After the Finish Line received proceeds from the race that helped 12 Off Track Thoroughbreds. We helped to retire Purplegreenandgold into the Galloping Out Program, we provided three months of care for a starved broodmare named Harts for Meme and we paid the farrier expenses for 10 Off Track Thoroughbreds at an aftercare organization in Arizona.

The racing industry supported the One Last Race. Racehorses, jockeys, owners, trainers, breeding farms, and racing media took photographs with the One Last Race sign. Racehorses that supported the One Last Race include American Pharoah, Curlin, California Chrome, Tapit, Shackelford, Songbird, Smarty Jones, Zenyatta and many more!
