Have you ever wondered what happens to Thoroughbred racehorses when they can no longer race or breed? They don’t always retire to a big green pasture. ATFL gives these horses the opportunity for a new beginning. We help them transition into second careers or retire with dignity by awarding year round funding to rescue and retirement organizations across the United States that save, rehabilitate and re-train these equine athletes. We can only help as many horses as our funds allow. We need you to be a voice for our equine friends and help us raise money to save them from possible slaughter and neglect. Save the Date
“A Tribute to the Majesty of Thoroughbreds”
Mark your calendars and plan to attend After the Finish Line’s biggest and most important fundraiser of the year. ATFL hosts their 6th Annual Charity Dinner on Thursday, August 1st from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm at the Hilton Hotel in Del Mar, CA. “A Tribute to the Majesty of Thoroughbreds” will include a reception, silent and live auctions, dinner and special guests. This wonderful event is held during the Del Mar race meet to raise awareness for and honor the ex-racehorses. Join us in welcoming our special guest, Robert Vavra, the world’s premier photographer of equines.

A tax-deductible donation to our silent and live auctions will help raise funds for the Thoroughbred ex-racehorses. Now is the time to contact us about donations and mail them to us. We accept donations of racing and equestrian items, restaurant gift cards, jewelry, lodging, wine, artwork, photography, sports and movie tickets and memorabilia. Spa and salon packages, rounds or golf and retail store gift cards are also appreciated. You can inquire at dawn@afterthefinishline.org.

After the Finish Line wants you to volunteer with us! Your skills will have a tremendous impact in rescuing horses. You can be involved in a project or just volunteer at a fundraiser. You don’t have to live locally in Southern California to participate. If you have experience with event planning, fundraisers, grant writing, marketing, sources for auction items or computer skills, then join us for a rewarding experience in helping the Off Track Thoroughbreds. ::: Thoroughbred Celebration Horse Shows :::
This is After the Finish Line’s 4th year in partnership with the Thoroughbred Celebration Horse Shows at the Virginia Horse Center. ATFL and friends sponsor the $1,500 After the Finish Line Hunter Stake. King Max and rider Susan Sisco won this class at the March show. The next show date is June 7 – 9th. This show series promotes Off Track Thoroughbreds in second careers as Hunters, Jumpers and Pleasure Mounts. NEW this year is the addition of Dressage, combined training and Hunter trials.
The Recycled Ribbons for Recycled Racehorses program, the silent auction, and a portion of the entry monies from The Jockey Club T.I.P. English Pleasure Classes raised more than $2,400 for ATFL. ATFL will award these funds and more to our June emergency fund recipients. We look forward to seeing the Off Track Thoroughbreds in the Daily Racing Form Winner’s Circle.
::: June Emergency Funds :::
After the Finish Line awarded June emergency funds to three organizations. ReRun, Inc. developed an All Stars Program. This intensive 3-month training program boosts their horse’s chances of adoption. ATFL will fund the boarding expenses for Quiescent Hit, who is ready to start training. “Q” is a 6 year old gelding that raced in New York and New Jersey earning $21,000. ATFL will also pay the boarding expenses for Harry’s Our Hero when the vet clears him for training. Harry, a 4 year old gelding, retired after he fractured his knee in a race.
The Golden Carrot is providing Go Giogianni Go a retirement home after injuring his front fetlock. This 7 year old gelding raced at Golden Gate Fields earning $48,000. Unexpected expenses for Gio put a strain on the rescue. ATFL will fund his vet treatments, medication, supplies and chiropractic and dental work to ease his pain.
Equine Encore Foundation cares for 63 ex-racehorses. They predominately raced in Arizona and California earning upwards of $400,000. ATFL will help fund their annual dentistry expenses.
The tornadoes in Oklahoma caused wide spread destruction. After the Finish Line will make a donation to Horse Feathers Equine Rescue to help the equine survivors of the Oklahoma tornadoes. They are delivering supplies, treating wounds and helping to reunite horses with their owners. Horse Feathers is accepting monetary and in-kind and donations.

After the Finish Line was created to help Thoroughbreds that are not supported after their racing and breeding careers are over. Your donations will help save, rehabilitate and re-train Thoroughbred ex-racehorses for a second career or dignified retirement. We receive monetary and auction donations from supporters across the United States.
